Championing the interests of Kaipara ratepayers and residents

Meet your local councillor, Jonathan Larsen

I’ve been involved in the district all my life as a Kaipara ratepayer and resident.
I  want to see our communities continue to grow, but in a safe, enjoyable way for residents, ratepayers, and visitors alike.
Local communities where adequate infrastructure is provided, and where value for money is provided to ensure we can live on and enjoy the land here for generations to come.
But most of all, I want the voice of our communities to be heard by the Kaipara District Council.
So that’s why I’m here - proudly representing the Kaipara District since October 2016.

My background

With 25 years of service as a professional firefighter, trainer, and station officer, nine years as a Kaipara District Councillor, and this term as Deputy Mayor, it’s safe to say I’m all about serving local communities.

Add commercial acumen and experience in farming, forestry, and land development, a keen interest in conservation as well as being a chair-endorsed Resource Management Act Commissioner and I have a strong set of skills and knowledge to bring to the Council table as I continue to represent our communities' interests. I am currently protectively covenanting 360,000m2 of mature and regenerating native forest at Mangawhai with stock exclusion and significant pest control.

If you have a question or concern about our local area, please get in touch.

Building relationships

Over eight years I’ve built relationships within the Council, and local and central Government.

I knew early on that to actually get stuff done and make a difference I would need to build relationships and understand how the ‘system’ works.

And this, combined with my ongoing passion to improve things for our district, is why you can trust me with your vote (when the time comes.)

My promise to Kaipara ratepayers and residents

SUPPORT FOR LOCAL PROJECTS

I will help our local communities to maximise the benefit we get out of Council funds. View some of the initiatives we’ve already achieved.

ENSURING TRANSPARENCY

I will advocate for Council meetings, workshops, and debates to be held in public, not behind closed doors.

KEEPING YOU INFORMED

I will keep you updated with what the Kaipara District Council is doing about local issues via social media, this website, and local publications.

HOLDING COUNCIL TO ACCOUNT

I will insist on fair processes when you deal with Council, and ensure you get good value for your rates.
