Work is progressing well on the extension to the Baylys Beach board walk. I had the pleasure of visiting the site recently to view the work which will see a safe and secure elevated boardwalk extend from the new public toilet block to the beach without the need to walk the vehicular accessway.
The wooden piles supporting the structure are driven four metres deep. There is also remedial work planned on both sides of the accessway to stabilise the western end of the existing structure along with the previously retained dune bank on the northern side.
The project is being funded using $310,000 from the Tourism Infrastructure Fund (TIF) and $200,000 debt serviced and repaid by KDC general rates.
The works started at the end of August and are scheduled to be completed in the first week of December ready of the busy summer period.
